Generative AI Inside Programmable NFTs Is New

In their infancy, NFTs have suffered mightily from both misconceptions about the technology behind them and manipulation by fraudsters and hackers. Issues have arisen because many people, including creators, rushed to treat them as monetized cryptocurrency projects, tradable assets, and get-rich-fast investments. The more thoughtful, functional opportunities possible with them have often been overshadowed by hype, speculation, speed, and greed.

That’s finally starting to change — and it isn’t because brands made them collectibles or high-end coupons. It’s because evolving technical capabilities are steadily improving NFT functionality.

It’s still true that an NFT refers to an asset, most often an image, tokenized with a unique digital signature recorded on a decentralized, immutable blockchain like the Ethereum network. This signature on a distributed blockchain ledger, across thousands of computers worldwide, ensures that the NFT’s existence and transfer can be verified with an extremely high level of certainty — without relying on a central authority like a bank or broker. That’s well and good, but the public has largely remained unable to see this in practice, translate what it means, or find relevant applications to their lives and work.

With the emergence of programmable NFTs in 2023, we can now directly embed content and executable programs inside an NFT, which creates a significant difference in how we experience them, their utility, and even the jobs they can perform for us. My team’s new Immutable Miniverse Format (IMF), for example, immutably encodes — and can encrypt — tailored messages, games, music, binaries, and interactive experiences within an NFT, visualized as a string of secret code in motion. Importantly, this self-contained “miniverse” is embedded as part of the NFT artwork — without the technology burden of maintaining Web3 access points when being used on traditional social media.

The Next Level with Generative AI

Fusing NFT art and programming code in a self-contained way is a significant development.

Programmable NFTs can be leveraged for work and play, shared on today’s social media platforms (Web2) and even serve as the building blocks of a kind of “app store” for Web3 and a more decentralized economy, comparable to today’s mobile phone apps. Additionally, the use cases in everyone’s mind involve generative AI technologies.

For good reason: the ultimate NFT utility may be the capacity to tokenize intelligence in a decentralized and immutable fashion.

Here, we’re not talking about using generative AI to churn out NFT art, rather the focus is on integrating LLM chat capabilities into programmable NFTs and ultimately empowering owners to program and mint their own NFTs to do this. My team is enabling NFT holders to have a private conversation with and within their NFT about the domain and knowledge embedded inside their NFT’s miniverse. This means leveraging a customized, fine-tuned version of an LLM, while not subjecting any input to third-party services that could opaquely use the data or violate privacy — a criticism leveled at OpenAI and others in a typical centralized GPT setting.

In fact, if you’re maximizing the strengths of both technologies, NFTs and gen AI, then:

  • The embedded information on which an LLM conversation is based should be immutable, individualized, and decentralized.
  • The conversation with such embedded information must preserve privacy. It does not need to reference any public GPT services.
  • NFT creators must be committed to decentralized AI on Web3. Future iterations should and will allow a user to run their LLM model locally on the user’s own computer.

The protection of privacy possible with NFTs is a differentiator compared with using generative AI in a web application. A criticism of ChatGPT, BARD, and similar systems is that input from a user becomes data consumed by the generative AI, including proprietary input, and that can ultimately become available to other users. A generative tool like Microsoft’s Copilot stores input data, while assurances are made that it isn’t used for training large language models.

Still, the concern is that the power of massive data and its control becomes centralized even more by the hyperscaler giants of computing and the few smaller companies they back.

Blockchain’s fundamental decentralization and distribution means that generative AI NFTs can offer an alternative to that system of big data control.

Additionally, AI, as with mobile now, can leverage edge computing, not centralized cloud services.

Long-term Uses of Programmable NFTs in Life and Business

The viability of a technology depends on its ability to solve real problems and to create new possibilities and experiences beneficial to humanity and the world. Right now, we’re seeing a tremendous blooming of new uses for generative AI. When sharing information or when interaction needs to be secure, private, and impervious to short- or long-term systems failure or third-party dependency, the integration of NFTs and AI will prove especially handy.

In the personal realm, consider how you might preserve and interact with family history and important private documentation shared among family members over the long term, without pieces of that being scattered or permanently lost. Some families have members who live across the world and with whom they want to share information. Most people have family members dear to them who have passed away or will do so. Imagine an interactive record of your grandparents’ lives — one that you can have a conversation with. Imagine documenting family events from yesterday, five years ago, or fifty years ago that are less likely to be lost to time in a decentralized system. With programmable, AI-capable NFTs, you and your specified family members can own the assets with the data, the knowledge, the documents, and the interactive capabilities, as long as you have an internet connection. Digital existence and private access are distributed and not dependent on permission granted by a central authority or third party.

The same principles hold true for business uses.

Consider proprietary documentation, blueprints, and even trade secrets that need to be shared among specific engineers across a global workforce or from an older generation to a newer one within a company.

With an NFT, you could securely encrypt documentation, share it with an intended party, and, with generative AI capabilities, enable them to ask questions of it — even, in a sense, converse with engineers retired or long gone. Questions and answers about the documentation can instantly be translated into other languages.

Because NFTs are immutable and recorded permanently in a distributed public registry, impervious to deletion or third-party tampering, their potential for authenticating products and verifying lineage in the supply chain has often been noted.

Adding a layer of interactive inquiry with embedded generative AI makes this business use case even more exciting.

A programmable NFT or immutable “miniverse” with generative AI functionality is a new frontier in interactive, customized applications for personal and business use that truly puts ownership in individual hands. It’s time to lift NFTs out of the abyss of financial speculation and esoteric understanding and put the spotlight on their technical capabilities — which can make them useful for everyone.

Notably, these investments will incur a 5% initiation fee and a subsequent 1.25% fee on monthly profits. Additionally, NFTs will carry a 5% royalty fee for secondary sales. The benefits for DeSME holders are substantial, as they will receive 20% of the initial setup fees, 20% of monthly profits, and 20% from secondary sales of NFTs. Furthermore, the NFTs associated with these investments are designed to appreciate value by incorporating additional utilities. Fujitsu and Kanazawa Institute of Technology will launch an initiative to issue NFTs  utilizing the “Fujitsu Web3 Acceleration Platform”  to visitors of the “Kanazawa Tsukimikoro”  illumination event that will be hosted by the Kanazawa Institute of Technology. Background

Declining birthrates and an aging population represent an ongoing challenge for many local communities. In addition to “re-settlers” and tourists, the growing importance of nonresident population – population that does not permanently live in a certain region but has a strong relationship with it – has been gaining increasing attention within initiatives to drive the revitalization of local communities.

Kanazawa Institute of Technology is promoting practical education to contribute to the solution of societal issues through industry-academia collaboration, with Kanazawa Institute of Technology’s Izuhara Laboratory putting special focus on the use of digital technology in local communities.

In March 2023, the Fujitsu Group launched its “Fujitsu Web3 Acceleration Platform,” Fujitsu’s platform to co-create transformational, value-added solutions to a variety of issues facing society, offering access free of charge to select participants of its global partner program, “Fujitsu Accelerator Program for CaaS”. To further strengthen the relation of nonresident population with local communities and ultimately contribute to local revitalization, Fujitsu Japan and Kanazawa Institute of Technology’s Izuhara Laboratory started a joint project to issue NFTs using Web3 technology.

Outline of the initiative

As part of their collaboration, Fujitsu Japan and Kanazawa Institute of Technology will combine Fujitsu’s Web3 technology with an AR application created by Kanazawa Institute of Technology to issue an NFT to visitors of the “Kanazawa Tsukimikoro” event.

To offer visitors an experience that links the real and digital world, Kanazawa Institute of Technology will present an event combing projection mapping with a live piano performance to both visitors of the event venue and participants in a simultaneous virtual event. The event will also include an augmented reality (AR) experience in combination with projection mapping. Participants who look at the event site using a dedicated web application on their smartphone will see the image of a rabbit on their smartphone. When tapping on the rabbit, visitors will receive an NFT of the rabbit with the projection mapping as a background.

The Convergence of AI and the Metaverse and What it Means to the World

Taken separately, the two most hyped technologies of the past year each has the power to completely transform our modern lives. When combined that transformation will be unlike anything mankind has ever experienced. This is the singular moment that will mark a new epoch of civilization where everything will be referenced as “before” the phenomenon or “after.”

To understand why the combined technologies of AI and the metaverse are so much more than the sum of their parts, we need to understand the benefits they each will contribute to our individual lives. When new technology gives people wealth, power and control over their lives, it thrives and gains adoption. This will happen with both AI and metaverse technologies and before we know it, they will transform everything.

We’ve all seen examples of the primitive versions of AI that have become public in the past few months. From writing essays to generating images to building software, AI large language models have the appearance of a neat parlour trick – mimicking human abilities and often generating impressive results. Much of the discussion surrounding AI has revolved around the concerns that AI may replace certain jobs; and indeed, this is a very likely outcome.

AI has many promising applications that will improve the efficiency in fields ranging from filling warehouse orders to driving a taxi or truck, to reading medical scans and writing legal briefs.

But unless your job is directly impacted, the introduction of these applications probably aren’t going to bring AI directly into your life in a major way.

We’ve also all heard the metaverse is coming. Most people don’t know what that really means besides seeing people in bulky VR headsets stumbling around their own little world, but don’t be fooled; the truth is more mind-blowing than you can possibly imagine.

I like to think of the metaverse as the next generation of the internet.

It’s a blend that takes the best features of video games and the World Wide Web to create a new kind of web surfing experience. Instead of visiting flat webpages you experience the web as if it was the real world, filled with other people and places you see and interact with like you do in real life.

Instead of just reading and commenting on posts from friends on Facebook, you can actually spend time with your friends going to shows, events and even vacations. But in an improvement to real life, you don’t need to be concerned about travel, hotels, waiting in lines or buying expensive tickets. In a metaverse you can travel anywhere with the click of your mouse, economies of scale mean your tickets for a concert or convention will cost pennies and your group can always have the best seats in the house (because all the seats are the best).

Just like the internet today, you will be accessing the metaverse from any type of device. When you’re on the go, you will be able to hit up a simple rendering of the metaverse from your mobile phone or tablet. For many applications you’ll want to log in from a computer or smart TV; but for the real premium events like concerts or amusement parks, you’ll probably want to have a VR headset.

The true power of the metaverse ultimately comes from its ability to do things we’ve never been able to do before. Imagine being able to attend trade shows or events like Comic-Con from anywhere in the world with no travel costs or being able to have millions of students from around the world attending classes at Harvard for a few pennies a semester.

When you buy things online you can shop with your avatar to try on the clothes, and you will have a complete digital inventory of every item of clothing from your real-world closet. No more wondering if this new blouse will match those shoes you own because you can actually try them on together. And no more wondering how that couch will look in your living room because you can put the digital version into your virtual model home to know before you purchase.

But one of the most transformative things about the metaverse is how it will reshape human interactions. How you meet people and date, fall in love, get married, make friends, even attend funerals will all move from either being done in the real world or being done online, to being done in a “best of both” way.

As avatars in the metaverse, you will have the power of being online (search, swipe, message) combined with the genuine human interactions of actually being in the live presence of other people – your friends, their friends, real interactions and real events to see and talk about. These healthy social interactions will be transformative in and of themselves, but there is a whole new kind of interaction that take this to the next level – AI.

The first human-robot most of us will ever encounter will be our own personal AI robot avatar that lives in the metaverse.

Imagine having an artificial intelligence that is “trained” on everything you do and everyone you interact with, to be able to assist and help you to live your best life.

As Cyrano de Bergerac, your AI assistant can whisper into your virtual ear helpful things to say when you meet someone that you’d like to get to know. It can help you get over your anxiety and feel confident in private conversations or important business meetings. Your AI can talk to you and help you in your decision making, suggesting possible actions and activities based on a deep understanding of your own past decisions and how you live your life and what suggestions might make that life better.

You won’t be able to have an AI robot following you around in the real world for a long time, but in the metaverse you’ll be able to have one sooner than you think. And as it gets to know you, you’ll have a trusted adviser, assistant, mentor, wingman and friend that will have no motive but to make your life better.

Since the opening of the Marketplace on April 7, 2023, players have been able to purchase their cards through auction-style bidding on Polygon and start assembling their team of stars. In just two months, the fantasy web3 has generated over $100,000 in sales.

OVAL3’s NFT collection will be available on Binance NFT for a period of 2 months

It’s official! For two months, some OVAL3’s NFTs will be exclusively available on Binance NFT. Discover an exceptional selection of cards representing players from TOP14, PRO D2, and MLR clubs.

Each week, one club from each championship will be featured, and different cards will be auctioned off for 24 hours each day. The available supply per day will be:

  • 1 unique card ;
  • 2 super rare cards ;
  • 4 rare cards ;
  • Approximately 15 limited cards (featuring all available players from the three clubs for the week)

The first cards will be available on Monday, June 19, at 8 pm on Binance’s NFT marketplace. Among them will be the reigning European champions, Stade Rochelais, Oyonnax, the current PRO D2 champions, and the New England Free Jacks, who are currently leading the Eastern Conference in the United States. In this first release, the available unique cards will be:

  • Stade Rochelais : Grégory Alldritt, Antoine Hastoy and Jonathan Danty ;
  • Oyonnax : Charlie Cassang and Aurélien Callandret ;
  • New England Free Jacks : Paula Balekana and Mills Sanerivi.

The next release will arrive during the week of June 19, after the TOP14 final. The adventure will continue with Antoine Dupont (the ambassador of OVAL3) and Stade Toulousain, the most decorated club in Europe, the Utah Warriors with Paul Lasike as the American ambassador of OVAL3, and Mont de Marsan, who reached the semifinals this season in PRO D2. Several unique cards will be present:

  • Stade Toulousain : Antoine Dupont, Thomas Ramos and Romain N’tamack
  • Mont de Marsan : Alexandre de Nardi and Wame Naituvi
  • Utah Warriors : Franco van den Berg and Zion Going

The NFT card collection of OVAL3:

Similar to Sorare and other fantasy leagues, the cards represent players and provide all the relevant information about them. Each card features the player’s name, first name, age, nationality, club, position, and a photo. The cards have a beautiful design and come in five levels of rarity: common, limited, rare, super rare, and unique.

In this list, you will only find the common cards, which are available in unlimited quantities to support the free-to-play aspect. The other types of cards will be available in limited quantities, and the number of prints will depend on their rarity level. For example, unique cards will have only one copy available, while super rare cards will be limited to five copies.

OVAL3’s cards are NFTs created on the Polygon blockchain, and their rarity level allows access to specific competitions. The rarer the card, the higher the rewards in the competition. Additionally, the rarity provides a percentage of bonus points during various competitions.

How to play OVAL3 ?

In its rugby quest, OVAL3 aims to be the global platform for digital entertainment in this sport. Firstly, through NFT fantasy similar to Sorare, but also going further in terms of gameplay experience (with different types of cards, competitions, game modes, etc.) and the utilization of web3 technologies (including its own token).

To play OVAL3’s fantasy game, it’s very simple:

  • Collect: your first “player” cards (on the Oval Oval3 marketplace or on Binance NFT);
  • Play: form your team of 5 players and participate in competitions against other managers (the 5 players must have different positions);
  • Win: rank high on the leaderboard and earn rewards (cards, OVL3 tokens, merchandise, match tickets, and real-life fan experiences).

OVAL3 is a project developed by Bamg Sports, a leading company since the creation of the Fantasy Rugby World game, a web2 rugby game that already brings together over 50,000 users worldwide. OVAL3 is the sole holder of the rights for TOP 14, PRO D2, and MLR (Major League Rugby in the United States). OVAL3 is a collaborative project built with rugby leagues, clubs, and players. AiThority: How Generative AI is Transforming Audio Content

Located on the first floor of Spring Studios NYC, OKX’s NFT Lab is an interactive space where attendees can create and customize NFTs by entering text-based prompts via the OKX mobile app, meet OKX ambassadors and learn more about the company’s Web3 products. This NFT generation capability is powered by AIGC technology, which uses machine learning algorithms to produce original pieces of digital art. Each design completed at the NFT Lab will be minted as a bespoke NFT and stored on the blockchain, allowing attendees to transfer it to any wallet address or list it on the OKX NFT Marketplace. The NFTs will also be displayed in real-time on square-shaped screens featured at OKX’s NFT Lab.

Creative Harmony: How Much Will AI Influence Sound for Brands?

Everyone’s at least a bit scared of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Whether you’re technophobic, fearing an apocalyptic uprising in machines akin to ‘I, Robot’, or you’re a training lawyer seeing GPT-4 beat 90% of your peers in the bar. Even Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak and hundreds of other tech experts signed an open letter calling a pause on developing AI tools more advanced than GPT-4. Scary. 

But surely the creative roles are safe?

Creativity is an innately human characteristic that no robot can replicate, isn’t it…?

Whilst we’re all typing in prompts in an attempt to speed up the menial aspects of our jobs, the impact of AI on various industries is accelerating at a rate of knots. For most people creativity and music felt like an area that would remain unaffected. That is until David Guetta caused a stir with his Eminem-style deepfake. Since then, we’ve heard the likes of Drake, The Weeknd, Ye and Oasis all mimicked with unnerving likeness to the real deal. 

It’s not just music either. German photographer Boris Eldagsen refused his prize for winning at the Sony world photography awards, admitting he generated the image using AI. He did it to prove a point; that people wouldn’t identify the plagiarism and accelerate a debate around AI’s impact on “the photo world”. All of these ‘deepfakes’ provide a worrying insight into what the future may look like given the exponential growth of AI that is set to occur over the coming years.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. True creativity remains a human quality that is difficult to replicate. Following his conversation with an AI robot artist (Ai-da), Baz Luhrmann, stated “until she can actually love and dream, I’m not worried”. He believes that AI can help facilitate creative work and do a lot of the grunt work, but will always lack the authentic emotions to fulfill the task completely. In the words of Keith Richards, “Music is a language that doesn’t speak in particular words. It speaks in emotions, and if it’s in the bones, it’s in the bones” and creativity will never be in the bones of AI.

From a brand perspective, the development of image generative AI means we can input a brands values, markets, objectives, target audiences, and generate numerous visual identities at the click of a button. People are often astounded by how hard it is to differentiate it with human-made alternatives. There have even been a few AI generated adverts circulating on social media recently, including one for ‘Pepperoni Hug Spot’. Aside from the creepy mouths and other quality issues, it’s almost believable, if not a little cheesy. However, this is largely due to the relatively novel nature of generative AI. It collects the data available to it and generates output that fit the criteria.

Over time, if everyone starts putting data into these systems, the output will start to become standardized and boring. If people are just creating things based purely on historical information, how will anything new be created?  

The same can be said for sonic branding. When we’re in a ‘discovery phase’ of a project we establish ‘audio cornerstones’ that are essentially principles that describe the brand at its core, which are also meaningful in music and sound e.g. bold, nostalgic, mysterious etc. I’m sure at some point in the not-so-distant future there will be a way of typing these audio cornerstones into a program that’ll create 100 different tracks that resemble these cornerstones – But they will lack the human touch that facilitates the emotional connection between brand and consumer. 

However, that doesn’t mean AI has no place in the creative process. We have a product called Ignite that uses AI to benchmark a brand’s values against 1000s of commercial tracks, built with the input of over 500,000 consumers. This roots the brand’s audio cornerstones in music that the client already knows and provides clarity on the creative direction. Our sound effectiveness partners, SoundOut, test the creative directions we’re exploring to validate our work and make sure the brief is being hit. They use AI in their products, making the process more efficient and accurate. When speaking about their new AI generated product (OnBrand) David Courtier-Dutton, CEO said “Technologies like OnBrand are just another tool that helps brands and agencies ensure that creative directions and music choices being explored are indeed aligned to the core brand values and deliver on the brief”

So, instead of using AI to create – We should view AI as a creative tool that can help make processes more efficient and the output less subjective. It can be a collaborator, used to steer creativity in the right direction, rather than replacing it altogether.
